We oftentimes are confronted with the problem of not having enough storage space for all of our belongings. We accumulate so many things over the years, and they are piling up inside our homes, then we wonder what to do with them. With three simple techniques, you can get back on the road to gaining back and conserving your valuable and already limited space for a more comfortable, spacious home environment.<br />
<br />
<b>Under bed storage</b>: When browsing the market for a potential upgrade to your bed and mattress, make sure to choose a bed that is not only comfortable, but is lifted off the ground by at least 10 inches if it doesn’t come with built-in storage drawers. By making this simple decision, you instantly create a new storage compartment underneath the area of your bed. You can buy storage boxes and hide away all of your bedding, extra pillows, blankets and the like. It is also an ideal place to store your shoes and winter clothing during the summer months and vice versa.<br />
<br />
<b>Look for double duty-furniture</b>: Like the bed, the correct choice of furniture can make the difference between chaos and a highly organized and clutter-free home. You can take advantage of these versatile pieces of furniture to economize your space and get more bang for your buck.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Coffee table that doubles as a stool and storage. Buying this simple and versatile piece of furniture is one of the quickest ways to store some of your belongings such as books and magazines.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Sofa that can be converted to sofa bed. This goes without saying how much space it can save without the need to buy an extra futon or air mattress to accommodate our guests.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Wardrobe with extra space between itself and the ceiling. The space above can be used in storing bulky items like luggage that you don’t use often but take up quite a bit of space.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Bookshelf that doubles as room divider<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Headboard with storage function<br />
<br />
<b>Take advantage of the walls</b>: Without spending extra money for wall decoration, an easy DIY wall display can turn those items that occupy all of your extras space into decorations. These items can easily convert your bare wall into an eclectic and attractive display.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Use wall hooks to hang clothing accessories such as ties, belts, jewelry, purses, etc.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>By installing shelving units, you can showcase your hats, sunglasses, or anything of your choosing. Keep other stuff in cool looking boxes.<br />
Following the above pieces of advice should free up a lot of your home space, but if you still suffer from a shortage of space, it may be time to reconsider how much you need all of the clutter in your home in the first place. If you consider getting rid of some of the extra weight from your home, consider donating it to charity organizations that can put those items to good use. If all else fails, self-storage spaces can be an economical solution for the things you can’t part with, but don’t have an immediate use.<br />

This is especially true for those living in townhomes or apartments where you don’t have much space to keep the extra stuff. Or more likely, when are in transitions for a new home or a new job in different cities and need temporary storage. Let’s look at two types of modern storage solutions offered in the market.<br />
<br />
<b>Mobile Storage </b><br />
Mobile storage is a self-storage system that basically brings a storage container, also called a pod or a module, to your door step at your request. This unique storage concept only requires you to pack your goods into the container or pay the company to pack it for you after which you lock the container with your own padlock so that no one else will be able to access your module. The company then transfers your stuff to their climate-controlled storage facility. Some storage providers will sell boxes, locks and other packaging suppliers to their clients to make packing and safekeeping easier for them In terms of flexibility, they usually offer both short-term and long-term storage.<br />
Pros:<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span><br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Mobile storage saves expenses for renting moving trucks.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>It is suitable for people who are short on time or with busy schedules.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>It saves you time in terms of packing, loading, unloading and travel. The containers are delivered right in front of your door and taken away when you are done.<br />
Cons:<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Most of these companies will not allow 24/7 access and you will therefore be required to make an appointment.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>The prices can be a little bit higher than the traditional storage concept.<br />
<br />
<b>Traditional Storage </b><br />
Traditional storage is a self-storage solution where a storage unit is rented out in a storage facility. This can either be short term or long term storage. Some providers may offer truck rentals as well as packing and moving supplies.<br />
As soon as you sign a lease, you are assigned a unit based on your size preference which can range from a small locker to a unit that can fit all the furniture of an entire household. You are then given access to the facility.<br />
Pros:<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Sizes vary from small, medium to larger rooms where you can even fit an entire household in there.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Most of these facilities offer cheap storage with storage prices varying from short term to long term storage.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>You are allowed 24/7 access to your storage space.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>You are allowed to bring your own lock so no one can access your space.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Highly advanced technology security systems to ensure the safety of your stuff.<br />
Cons:<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>You have to rent a moving truck to transport your stuff<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>You have to do the loading and unloading personally or hire hands.<br />
•<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Some companies require an upfront or security deposit.<br />
Now that you know the pros and cons of both types, it is up to you to decide which is the right one for you storage needs.<br />

<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">It’s easy to
forget about moving indoor and outdoor plants properly when moving house and
they are often the last things that get packed to go, often just being dumped
into a cardboard box or back of the truck haphazardly. This means they are
often packed incorrectly, damaged and even killed during transport. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The plants you
have in your backyard and inside your home can be put to good use at your new
home to immediately spruce up your new garden and the interior of the house so
it’s a shame to waste them, and it’s a waste of money too as you will then have
to go out and buy new plants.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">If you have
been at your old home for a long time then you probably have a lot of plants
that are established within the garden and it would be a great shame to have to
leave all your hard work behind. But also not necessary, although you obviously
can’t dig everything up why not start taking cuttings a few months before you
plan to move? <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">It’s not a
good idea to start digging up the whole garden as it will look ugly, and the
new tenants probably won’t be very happy about it! But if you have a certain
plant or shrub that you love the look or smell of and would like to take it to the
new place, then cut a small piece and replant it in a small pot ready to be
planted into the ground when you’re ready to start on the garden.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Check with
your removal company if they will take plants as well. If they do not then you
will have to organise to move them yourself. For garden decorations and
equipment you may want to put them into storage if you are going to be
landscaping your new home as generally the garden is only taken care of once
the interior of the house is completed, and this can take some time. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Putting garden
equipment into <a href="http://supercheapselfstorage.com.au/facilities/sydney/sydney-inner-west/" target="_blank">self storage</a> will make sure they are out of the way until needed
and prevent them from getting lost, going rusty or getting broken.
Wheelbarrows, spades and forks, plant pots and lawnmowers can safely be stowed
away in the garden shed, but if you don’t have time to erect the shed at the
moment then storage is the key.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Make sure your
plants have plenty of water but are not soaking wet before you move them. Put
them into boxes quite tightly packed so there is no room for them to slide
around. It is also a good idea to protect the top of your plants from being
damaged so place a loose plastic bag over the top and to prevent them from
getting wet another one around the bottom of the plant pots.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">When you are
renovating your house you can either choose to be constantly moving the furniture
and other belongings around so the decorators or tradesmen can get to the parts
of the house where they need to work, or opt to move the bulky items of
furniture into rented storage. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">A storage unit
can be leased for short periods of time giving you and any tradespeople the
space needed to work effectively and get the renovations done a lot faster. This
can also help you to avoid damaging any household items during heavy renovation
work, or splashing paint on antique pieces and valuable items. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Start by
boxing up your smaller items ready to go into storage, just as you would for a
house move. Any larger objects should be wrapped if possible, and if you do not
have time to transport your belongings to storage space during renovations,
find a company that will come and pick them up for you or hire a removalist if
you can afford it.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Clearing out your
home to make room for renovation work is not just about ease of access. It will
also avoid the safety issues that can arise from working in a crowded space and
even help you get your home finished a lot quicker than expected.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The great
thing about storage is that you can hire a unit just for the renovation period,
there is no contract to sign and so you don’t waste any days when the unit
isn’t required, and you don’t waste any money either. Self-storage is the
simplest thing to organize and ideal for homeowners busy making improvements to
their property.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Find a service
that comes and picks up your possessions, just give them a call and they’ll
arrive with the portable unit, load it up for you and take it back to the
facility. Leaving you to get on with the work on the house and not worrying
about damaging furniture or having to cover everything in dust sheets to
protect it.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Most storage
facilities offer different sized units so whether you’re renovating the whole
house and need something really large to contain all your things, or just
remodeling 1 room, they should be able to accommodate your needs. Prices are
calculated by the size of the <a href="http://supercheapselfstorage.com.au/facilities/sydney/sydney-inner-west/" target="_blank">storage unit</a> and how long it’s hired for. They
often have discounts or promotions too so it’s worth checking out as this makes
the service even more economical than it already is!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<br /></div>
<div class="Normal1">
<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Just think
about all the possible mishaps that could occur when redecorating and
renovating a property. Paint for starters, it gets everywhere and can be really
difficult to remove from wooden furniture without leaving a mark. Then there
are all the workmen coming in and out on a daily basis who need space to move
around to do their job well. Accidents are more likely to happen if there are a
lot of things to maneuver<a href="" name="_GoBack"></a> around which is why self
storage makes so much sense.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="Normal1">

<div class="MsoNormal">
Most people have more electronic and electrical equipment
than they actually use or have storage space for. If you are planning to store
some of these devices at a self storage facility, it is important to understand
and practise the right way to pack and transport them in order to minimise
damage to these expensive items.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
While I love to buy electronic and electrical devices,
finding a place to store them can be a problem sometimes. And you don’t want to
keep too many around, because, you know, the wife might start complaining about
the unnecessary large expenditures you have made on them. So I often resort to
surreptitiously boxing up the older ones and slipping them in the self storage
facility we rent for our extra belongings. Packing electronic appliance and
batteries operated devices can be tricky though. If you are not careful,
individual parts in the device can be easily scratched or damaged, rendering
the entire item unusable. If you are planning to store some of your electronic,
electrical or batteries operated devices for an extensive period of time in a self
storage facility, be sure to take note of the following:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">1.<span style="font: 7.0pt "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span>Removing The Batteries</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
First of all, make sure that all batteries in the device are
removed before you begin packing or wrapping it up. Batteries, if stored inside
any device for a prolonged period of time, leak, and the acid will erode the
components within.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">2.<span style="font: 7.0pt "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span>Removing Cords and Wires </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It is advisable to remove all cords and wires that are
attached to the main device because it reduces wear and tear in the sockets. If
you are afraid that you can’t remember which wire goes where, label it before
rolling it up in bubble wraps. Also, don’t forget to remove any CDs, DVDs or
tapes inside the equipment too!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">3.<span style="font: 7.0pt "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span>Packing The Items</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The best way to pack any electronic or electrical equipment
is to put them back in their original packaging. However, we usually throw away
the packaging because they take up so much space. If you can’t find them
anymore, you can wrap the equipment in pieces of old but clean cotton cloth or
bubble wraps. These materials not only protect the delicate components, they
also help to absorb any impact or shock that could occur when they are moved.
To prevent humidity from damaging your equipment, you can throw in a couple of
silica gel packs which help keep the storage box dry and moisture-free.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">4.<span style="font: 7.0pt "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span>Padding the Items</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Apart from covering your electronic or electrical equipment
with protective wraps, you may wish to stuff the boxes with additional paddings,
such as packing peanuts or <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>shredded old
newspapers to prevent the equipment from shifting – hence denting or damaging
its parts – while in transit. Some of these packing materials can be reused, so
you don’t have to worry too much about your carbon print.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">
<span style="mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-list: Ignore;">5.<span style="font: 7.0pt "Times New Roman";">
</span></span></span>The Proper Way of Stacking the Boxes</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There is the right way and the wrong way of stacking your
boxes when loading them into your self storage unit. You should always stack
your boxes according to their weight, with the heaviest ones at the bottom. If
your equipment is sensitive, you may want to leave them in a corner inside of
stacking them with the less sensitive items.</div>

Did you once play the guitar like Jimi Hendrix? Did you once
surf those big waves like a free spirit? If your more mundane responsibilities
have taken over every part of your current existence, perhaps it is time to
rekindle that hobby of yours and start enjoying life again. This article tells
you where to look to reconnect with those once favourite pastimes.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Do you realize that as you get older, you devote less time
to your hobbies? Well, that’s natural, you may think. As you grow up, you have
more responsibilities in your life, and hence you need to prioritize them.
Family, kids and work always come first. And by the end of each day, you are so
tired that you may not even have the energy left to do anything else.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
That may be true, but as the saying goes, “all work and no
play makes Jack a dull boy”. Instead of getting duller as we get older, why not
rekindle some of that old hobbies of yours that you once so loved? I did
exactly that recently, and found myself having the time of my life! I was young
again, full of energy and fun. And my kids enjoy spending time with me even
more!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The best place to get started? Your garage or the self storage
facility where you keep all your old stuff. They are a treasure trove! Here are
some things that you could possibly find in there:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in;">
Were you a Miles Davis or a Jimi
Hendrix wannabe? Did you enjoy playing the scores of Bach and Chopin? Many
people found their first love in music, stored them away during their “adult
years” and rekindled that love again when they rediscovered them in their self
storage unit. I did. I suppose true love never dies.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in;">
People don’t like to throw away
their bicycle, even when they don’t ride them anymore. For some strange
reasons, the sentimental attachment they have on their ride is unfathomable. I
suppose it brings back wonderful memories, be it the college years, or the
early days of working life when you struggled to survive. What about getting
your bike out of the garage and riding it again? Not only will it make you feel
young, it also gives you a great workout!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in;">
Did you once dive, snorkel, canoe
or surf those crazy waves? I bet you can find your old diving or snorkeling
equipment, or your old surf board somewhere in the self storage facility too.
You may not be able to surf like before, but what about teaching your kids how
to ride those waves instead?</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; text-indent: -.25in;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .25in;">
Bowling was such a popular game in
the 80s and 90s that many people started getting their own bowling balls and
shoes. If you are not the outdoor-ish type, this may be the game for you.
Besides, it’s family friendly. How about making it a weekly night out as a
family?</div>

No hobbies? Can’t find anything in your storage at all? Perhaps
you can start a new one? What about camping, jogging or woodwork? Or anything to
get you out of that sofa or your eyes off that television or computer screen. Trust
me, you’ll feel young and brand new again.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The term self-storage generally generates
images of moving house but the truth is it can also work very well for all
kinds of businesses whatever their size. The storage industry has had to change
in recent years, along with many other businesses, in terms of adaptability and
finding new customers.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Some companies offer services for both
individuals and companies, whilst others specialise in only one or the other. A
business storage company might involve not only facilities for storage but also
provide units that have been modified so they can be used as mini-offices
complete with telephone line, internet access and desk.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Storage facilities are useful for businesses
as they can provide a place to stockpile furniture or documents whilst moving
premises or refurbishing due to expansion. If a company is in the process of
making cutbacks then it makes sense for them to start by moving into smaller
premises, this can be achieved by making the most of the nearest facility close
to you.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">It’s possible to keep anything not required
on a daily basis in a storage module for as long as you need, and if access is
necessary then it’s easy enough to travel to the facility and get what you
need. Units are available in different sizes, so it’s even feasible to rent one
long-term and use it as a mini-warehouse, this can save a lot of money as you
are just paying for rental alone with electricity and security all included in
the overall charge.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Check out facilities near you for rates and
offers. Be aware of any hidden costs as some facilities incur a fee for every
time you want to access the unit, this can soon add up if you need to get into
it several times a week for instance. Others will allow businesses free access;
it’s all dependent upon their rules. There may also be a restriction on the
times you’re allowed to have access which could be a problem if the unit is
being used as a distribution point and access is required at odd times.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Storage units can be used for many reasons,
they include the archiving of documents, files and records, the storage of
office furniture and equipment, samples or promotional materials. Stock can be
kept here on a temporary, seasonal or full-time basis and for those businesses
that save money by buying in bulk it offers a safe place for office supplies.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Some specialist self-storage facilities have
units that are climate controlled which makes them suitable as archives so
important business documents can be preserved if needed in the future. Units
can come with fitted shelves, storage bays and even be customised to fit in
with your needs.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Business storage facilities are just the same
as a personal facility, you pay for the size of the unit on a weekly, monthly
or longer basis. The company will deliver the unit to your requested location,
pack it up if you go for the premium service, and pick it up again to return it
to the warehouse where it’s taken care of. Business rates are very favourable
with discounts and great deals on storage options.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">Increasingly in this day and age, the
demand for good presenters of ideas has increased tremendously. Far too often,
people have found themselves tasked having stand in front of an audience to
either share an idea or sell a product. Many are simply not prepared for it.
This article shares some simple tips for the preparation of a good
presentation. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB"></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">It has been described as one of the top
fears in many people, some even going as far as describing it as a bigger fear
than dying. Having grown up trying daily to fit in with their peers, whether it
is in a school yard or at work, public speaking simply goes against that
natural instinct. After all, public speaking is about standing out, and many
people have a natural fight or flight response against that. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">The good news is that there are ways to
overcome this fear. Here are some ways:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">1. <u>Know your audience<o:p></o:p></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">Who are you speaking to? That’s the first
question any speaker must ask. A presentation for a group of 8 year-olds is
very different for one for professors, anybody can tell you that, but many
people make the mistake of never equating the “audience factor”. Tweaking your
speech for the right audience is helps you get your ideas across much more
effectively. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">2. <u>Know your content<o:p></o:p></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">The days when you can read off a storybook
in front of the class and still get a star for effort is over. Good public
speakers know their content inside out upside down. They do so by asking the
professionals and by doing their own research. No one would buy a car from a
salesperson who knows next to nothing about the car he sells, so why would
anyone listen to a person who has no idea what he’s talking about. Knowing your
content would give you the necessary confidence. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">3. <u>Prepare<o:p></o:p></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">Do you watch “Whose Line is it Anyway” and
think improvisation is the way to go? You’re wrong. Even the best improv actors
prepare with countless theatre exercises with their cast members so they know
each other’s energy well. Prepare you speech over and over, finding new ways to
say certain lines. Find phrases that are most natural to your speaking style.
Never tell yourself you have your cue cards to save you. Your cue cards are
simply there to make sure you do not off track when giving your speech or when
interrupted by an audience member. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">4. <u>Compile good lines<o:p></o:p></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">Any actor can tell you a good entrance
makes or breaks a performance. This applies to speeches as well. Keep a
notebook of good jokes, stories or lines you could use as an opening to warm up
the audience or somewhere in your speech. Think of the notebook as a <b>self storage</b> facility for good lines. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">5. <u>Relax<o:p></o:p></u></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-GB">Are you crazy? Relax? How? Well, it’s
actually quite simple. If you had done the steps above, you would be quite relaxed.
However, it is understandable to feel some sort of jitters. At this point, some
well-meaning advice would be to imagine the audience naked or to find something
to focus on, like a point at the last row of the audience. That’s too abstract.
Instead, just know that a good speech is like talking to a friend over a cup of
